Do You Have A COCKROACH Problem?

Cockroaches are among the most resilient pests found in homes across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic, with species adapted to nearly every indoor and outdoor environment. They are nocturnal, fast moving, and reproduce quickly. A single German cockroach egg case can contain up to 40 nymphs.

Common species in our region include American cockroaches, often called palmetto bugs, German cockroaches, smokey brown cockroaches, Australian cockroaches, and Oriental cockroaches. Each has distinct size, coloring, and habitat preferences. American cockroaches are the largest, reaching over two inches, while German cockroaches are smaller but tend to infest kitchens and bathrooms in large numbers.

Cockroaches can trigger allergies and asthma, contaminate food, and spread bacteria. Our Proforce Pest Control service professionals identify the species present in your home and apply a treatment plan matched to its behavior and biology.

COCKROACH Control FAQs

Pest problems come with a lot of questions. Here's what you need to know to identify, prevent, and get rid of them.
Why am I seeing cockroaches if my house is clean?

Cockroaches are drawn to moisture, warmth, and shelter, not just food. Even well maintained homes can attract species like American or smokey brown cockroaches that enter from outside through gaps around doors, pipes, and utility lines. German cockroaches, on the other hand, are almost always introduced through grocery bags, deliveries, or secondhand items. A Proforce inspection identifies both the species and the conditions that are attracting them.

Palmetto bug is a regional name most often used for the American cockroach, a large reddish brown species with a figure eight pattern on its head. It is the same insect, just a different name. They prefer dark, damp areas like crawl spaces, basements, and around plumbing, and they occasionally wander indoors, especially during heavy rain or temperature shifts.

Treatment depends on the species. For German cockroaches, we use a dedicated three part protocol that includes flushing agents to drive roaches from harborage areas, dust treatments in cracks and voids, and targeted bait that disrupts the reproductive cycle. A single application can prevent up to 40 nymphs from hatching. For other species, our standard pest control plan covers treatment during your regular service visits, with focus on entry points, harborage areas, and exterior perimeters.

For German cockroaches, most homeowners notice a significant reduction within the first two weeks. Other species respond quickly to barrier treatments around the home exterior. Ongoing quarterly or bi monthly service prevents new populations from establishing, and if roaches return between visits, the Proforce Guarantee covers a free re treatment.

Good sanitation goes a long way. Wash dishes daily, vacuum regularly, and avoid leaving food out on counters or tables. Pull out and clean behind large appliances like refrigerators and stoves a few times a year. Fix any leaking pipes or faucets, as cockroaches need moisture more than food. Your Proforce service professional will also point out any structural issues or entry points during service.
